Did you know that...

According to various studies:

Nearly 60% of founders and employees
of Polish startups admitted their failure
to look after their work-life balance
to a satisfactory degree.

Only 15% of startups
provide their employees with the option
to enter a mental health
support programme.

Less than 54% of startup founders talk openly with their employees about the factors that impact the psychological comfort of their team members.

About the report

The Mental Health report focusing on founders and employees of Polish startups is the first initiative in this country to examine the psychological well-being of the startup community.

The publication, based on an anonymous online survey conducted in Q4 2021, has two objectives – to demonstrate the problems faced by founders and employees of Poland’s fast-growing technology companies and to identify ways and means of coping with these obstacles.

The survey attracted nearly 300 respondents – among them were representatives of startups from every sector and at every stage of company development. Aspects identified by the survey participants included factors adversely affecting their psychological well-being and the type of support needed. Our report makes it clear that the scale of the problem is significant. For this reason, not only did we decide to share the results of the study, but we also included examples given by startup founders and employees who are busy building fast-growing enterprises and simultaneously looking after the daily work balance of their teams.

“Working in a startup, especially in the initial phase, involves constantly working on many different fronts and under enormous pressure due to the limited resources available to the entrepreneur. The team, the product, and the development strategy have to be built from scratch at the same time as having to focus on sourcing the capital for further business growth…”

“It’s all about making a conscious choice and accepting that this job is not for everyone. Founders and their teams should understand that they are choosing to operate for 8 to 10 years in extreme uncertainty. It helps a lot to have a kind of balance between maximizing the effort to achieve a goal with the awareness that you might not succeed. What matters is building the team spirit – the feeling that team members are providing each other with support in critical situations…”

“Well-being has become a vital term signaling the need to separate work from private life.
In the job of running a startup, which requires constant attention and vigilance,
building yourself a purely private space is of utmost importance, and at the same time highly challenging…”
